It has been another week, and another seven days of #hobbystreak are in the books. I mentioned last week that I am in an interstitial period in my hobbying, where I was not currently building any particular army, and that persists this week as I’m mostly working my way through my Pile of Shame and painting whatever seems to fit my fancy. But! By the end of the week, I finally decided on which army I want to start collecting. Being that Christmas is just around the corner and my hobby budget is slim, I probably won’t be buying too much of that new army for a while, but at least I have direction. But on to what I painted:
#hobbystreak Day One, November 29th: Stormcast Eternal
So this little neon green boy is the epitome of “blends that are not smooth and creamy”. The paint is too thick and instead of glazing I was glopping. My excuse is just that… well, no excuse here. I’m still trying to learn blending and I’m just plain not good at it. But I’ll keep trying until I get there.

Day Two: November 30, Space Marine Infiltrator
This started out as me saying “Well, maybe I’ll go back and start painting some Blood Angels again, and ended up just being me playing around. The red is darker than I use in my Blood Angels: the base here is Khorne Red, not Mephiston Red, and I highlighted up to Squig Orange, whereas I normally do my Blood Angels with a highlight drybrush of Ryza Rust (yes, I drybrush my Space Marines and it’s perfectly legitimate if you take your time). Anyway, he turned out okay.

Day Three: December 1, Space Marine Two-Tone
Honestly, on this day I was just playing around with no direction whatsoever and I decided that I had never taken the plunge and painted one of the Space Marine chapters that is half one color and half another (I could have gone a step further and quartered him, but I chose not to). My hands are not made for fine detail work so you’ll see that the edge highlighting is only moderately good, but I’m happy with it. My philosophy is: when I take a picture and the model is bigger on the screen than it is in real life and it doesn’t look like total dog crap, then I’ve done something right.
Day Four, December 2, Sanguinary Guard
I still have some Blood Angels models kicking around and Sanguinary Guard continue to be one of the best units in the entire game–not just best in Blood Angels or best in Space Marines, but I contend that the Sanguinary Guard are one of the best units full stop. I’ve done my other Sanguinary Guard with white wings, but I wanted to branch out a bit and do red wings. You’ll see this carried through on the next model I do.

Day Five: December 3, Sanguinary Guard
For this day’s #hobbystreak I continued on with the Sanguinary Guard but I based him in a dark silver–not even Leadbelcher, I went for Iron Warriors. I wanted him to look dark and imposing. Still kept the red wings because I want all of the Sanguinary Guard in this unit to be tied together with that theme, but I think they will all be a different form of metallic on their bodies. This is the last one I did this week, but don’t worry–I’m coming back to them.
Hobby Streak Day 6: December 4, Spartans
When I am feeling low when it comes to hobbying there is nothing that picks me up as quickly as painting some Hail Caesar from Warlord Games. I admit that I don’t play the game as rank-and-flank is not for me, but I really, really love the models, especially the Romans and, now, the Spartans. Trust me, you will see more Spartans soon. (I’ve been tempted to go to SPQR because it’s Romans on round bases, but I’ve heard mixed reviews.)

Day 7 (and 8 because I’m cheating): Akhelian Allopex
Yes, this is the army that I have decided to paint. I determined that as much as I don’t care for elves, I really like painting creatures, and there are no more interesting creatures in Age of Sigmar than the sharks, eels, octopi and turtles of the Idoneth Deepkin. I painted this guy in two days, and this post only shows the second day when he’s finished. (And, of course, my dang cat knocked him off my desk this morning so I had to do some repair work.)
But rest assured, come January you will be seeing a lot more Idoneth Deepkin on this #hobbystreak.
